This is separate section from the QUIRPA website intended to show the theorical, conceptual, pragmatic and academic work of Luis Diego and Mauricio. Hope you enjoy it!
In an effort to continue with my academic studies, I attended the AA Visiting Teachers Programme. With more than 15 professors from all over the world (Spain, South Africa, USA, Turkey, Chile, China, etc), the programme turned out to be a very interesting experience. We met every graduate and undergraduate programme's director, discussed educational strategies and attended lectures and exhibitions which together, were probably the best way to get to understand one of the greatest architectural programmes in the world. We also visited offices such as Will Alsop's and Erick van Egeraat's.

A DATUM ZERO PROJECT
Three volumes set on the inclined topography open themselves to an amazing view of Central Valley. One holds the social area, a second one holds the private area and a third one holds the owner's private office. The simplicity of the design allows nature to give life and movement to the design. Wood overhangs generate shadows that change as the day evolves. Volumes cast shadows on each other and delimitate diferent spaces throughout the day. Materials are left untouched, natural.

AN RSD PROJECT
Designed by RSD, Bathhouse Spa is based on the materiality that enhances the experience of the different spaces that compose the project. Hard surfaces on the outside constrast with soft surfaces on the inside and light gives a different mood to each space.
Press realese: "A big draw of THEhotel is the $11 million Bathhouse, a state of the art gym and spa. Steamrooms, saunas, whirlpools, cold baths, a waterfall corridor, mud baths, facials, massages, manicures, pedicures, and wraps are all part of the indulgent Bathhouse experience."

AN RSD | DATUM ZERO PROJECT
A conceptual idea for a city in a Costa Rican Beach. A place where health is the most important issue. The experience of place, delightful sensory experiences and relaxation practices interact to give the person a better, far from the city, life.
Architects: Heidar Sadeki, Clarissa Richardson, Guillermo Garita
Junior Architect: Luis Diego Quiros
Designers: Mauricio Quiros, Alexis Bravo, Javier del Risco
For the new millenium, a monument was to be designed at the entrance of the city of San Jose. An open cube, a cage, holding captive a national tree. Water spilling from the it's roots, it's blood, running in all four directions, getting closer to the people, asking for help. With time, the tree would grow to 'escape' the technological cage. Then, in a ceremony, the cage would be dismantled by the people.
Designer: Luis Diego Quiros
Based on Ken Yeang's ideas on Bioclimatic Skyscrappers (and having him as an advisor a few times), I designed a high-rise building for the city of San Jose. Promoting ecological awarness and a mixture of uses for the city, the skyscrapper would have been the tallest building in the country. Both the written investigation and the proposal won the Best Thesis Award.

AN RSD | DATUM ZERO PROJECT
As part of the many projects done with RSD / DATUM_O, we designed a private development in Punta Uva Beach. The design included a master plan and different house types such as K_HOUSE, L_HOUSE M_HOUSE and N_HOUSE. An evolution of the same idea, in all of them the sensory experince of place and materiality is the most important premise.
Architects: Heidar Sadeki, Clarissa Richardson, Guillermo Garita
Junior Architect: Luis Diego Quirós
Designers: Mauricio Quirós, Alexis Bravo, Javier del Risco
MUSEO DEL NIÑO
As and undergraduate student, I helped design this project as part of a group that participated in the OTIS International Competition. The main idea of the development was that it revolved around a central building that hold a unique biological experience so that the city core would also have the natural beauties that our forests have.
Designers: Dietter Schultz, Luis Diego Quirós, Silvia Pacheco, Adrian Jirón, Silvia Fournier, Manfred Barboza.
